Alabama’s Updated Annual Report Filing Requirements

What You Need to Know

Entities registered in Alabama must be aware of recent changes to the annual report filing process. This article provides a concise overview of the previous requirements, details the amendments made, explains the updated filing process, and offers tips for a successful submission.

Previous Annual Report Requirements

Previously, all entity types in Alabama were required to submit an annual report alongside their Business Privilege Tax Return to the Alabama Department of Revenue. The deadline for annual report submissions was March 15, each year following the calendar year of initial registration.

Changes in the Annual Report Requirement

Starting January 1, 2024, the annual report filing process has been modified. The Alabama Secretary of State’s Business Services Division will now handle annual reports for Domestic and Foreign For-Profit Corporations and Professional Corporations. Notably, Limited Liability Companies (LLCs) and other entity types continue to have no filing requirement.

Key Deadlines and Filing Process

With the new requirement comes an updated filing process. The Alabama Secretary of State’s website now offers both digital and printable forms for the annual report. The filing fee for each report is $10. Despite the changes, the annual report due date remains March 15, following the calendar year of initial registration.
